Policy - AIDS new infections overestimated

At least according to TED and the NY Times. There's also a great link there to Emily Oster's talk on TED. http://blog.ted.com/2007/11/aids_overestima.php

Extemp/Policy/Public Forum - Open CRS

They publish a crap load of congressional research papers. http://opencrs.com/

If you have an RSS reader, I would suggest the RSS feeds so you can stay current, they put out stuff every day, so there's always something interesting.

The research topics vary. You'll see everything from tax policy to border control to AIDS appropriates to street gangs. Lots of useful stuff.

SSRN - Social Science Research Network

A while back the SSRN used to publish a crapload of academic research papers for free. I used to like them for the law papers, specificallly the intellectual property (hence these are generally the ones I have saved), but the topic areas are very diverse. Theoretical crap critiquing Dworkin, practical application of the Fourth Ammendment with regards to new technologies, all sorts of shit.

Now you have to pay for it, but if, for example, you're a school with a giant endowment of land and can afford to put two air conditioning units in each classroom in the Konia building, you can probably afford a subscription. Go buy one.

Extemp - State Department Country Reports on Terrorsim

Formerly called Patterns of Global Terrorism. I used to request this each year, now you can just download it http://www.state.gov/s/ct/rls/crt/ but it's got some great summaries and it's a good overview, and reference. It's also really nice to cite in Extemp.

Extemp - State Department Background Notes

I didn't realize the State Department had started making these available online. I used to get the World Fact Book for extemp these are kinda better, plus you can download them now. http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/
